Utah Shakespeare Festival: H.M.S. Pinafore

TD Production Notes: This set involved the complex shape of a boat’s hull.  The compound curve was modeled by the designer, from which I established curve of the ribbed framing. The ribs were framed together, covered in bendable grade lauan, and finished with multiple treatments of Bondo to seal the unit together and mask the seams of the sheathing. The ship’s wheel mounted to a slip stage that traveled downstage for the captain to address the audience from. Intricate carvings dressed the stern of the ship and the orchestra pit surround.
