Lead Craftsman Notes: Our installation at the Super Kroger in Louisville, KY included a number of animatronic applications. I did the decorative work on a group of chickens that sat above the egg cooler and sang to the shoppers. Each feather was individually trimmed and applied using two small spots of silicone adhesive. Special care had to be taken in the feather application to facilitate the motion of the heads and beaks.
The pirate in this photo was installed above the seafood cooler in the deli area. I fabricated the entire project, cutting and stitching the costume and performing the stainable grade carpentry of the crow’s nest. The pirate was articulated at the waist and shoulder using two small AC motors and a chain linkage, beckoning the shoppers to buy shrimp while waving his sword through the air.
